INSULEUR joins forces to promote the economy of the Mediterranean islands
The current president of the Network of Chambers
of Commerce European Union Island (INSULEUR) and head of the Chamber of
Commerce of Mallorca, Joan Gual de Torrella, advocated a joint action plan for
the Mediterranean in the frame of the celebration of the XIII FORUM of Chambers
of Commerce of Adriatic and Ionian (AIC FORUM), which took place the 15th and 16th May in Bosnia.
With this meeting, it is intended to promote the exchange of views between institutional
and corporate networks to meet the needs of this region. The ultimate goal is
to provide, at the request of the European Commission, a strategic maritime plan for the Ionian-Adriatic area, in line with the rest of the Mediterranean Sea.
Boosting the marine economy and tourism in the islands
President Gual de Torrella stated the commitment of INSULEUR to this international
integration, especially in maritime matters, to promote cohesion, research,
development and regional cooperation. At the same time, he defended the
particularities of the islands and claimed the recognition of specificities
from the EU regarding the budget, with the aim of increasing the
competitiveness of these territories.
According to the president of the Chamber of Majorca, this macro agreement will
beneficially affect the development of the Mediterranean areas, while promoting
environmental protection, biodiversity and sustainable tourism.
Also INSULEUR considers that the implementation of these policies will
positively affect the other commercial activities in the region and,
particularly, the maritime industry and tourism, the island's economy boosters.
