A Successful Start to the I-STARS Sustainability Journey: INSULEUR's Hybrid Event Empowers Greek Tourism SMEs

 

We are delighted to share the success of INSULEUR's recent hybrid event, "Before Embarking on Your Sustainability Journey," held under the I-STARS project. This milestone event marked the official launch of the sustainability journey for 25 Greek tourism SMEs, each guided by dedicated sustainability experts. The event, hosted at the premises of the Central Union of Chambers of Greece (Κεντρική Ένωση Επιμελητηρίων Ελλάδος), was a vibrant mix of insightful presentations, practical tools, and meaningful exchanges, setting the stage for a transformative journey toward sustainability.

 

Event Highlights: Navigating the Path to Sustainability

 

The event was designed to provide comprehensive guidance to tourism businesses eager to embrace sustainable practices. Here's what was covered:

 

• Introduction to Essential Sustainability Tools: Participants were introduced to key tools designed to support their sustainability journey, including a self-evaluation monitoring tool that helps businesses assess and track their progress.
• Exploration of the I-STARS e-Learning Platform: The event showcased the dynamic I-STARS e-learning platform, which offers a range of courses aimed at enhancing knowledge and skills in sustainable tourism practices. This platform is an invaluable resource for businesses committed to integrating sustainability into their operations.
• Understanding the Reporting Process for Grantees: The event also demystified the reporting process for grantees, ensuring that businesses are well-prepared to document and share their sustainability efforts effectively.

Beyond the structured sessions, the event served as a forum for fruitful exchange, where participants shared insights into the sustainability challenges and opportunities within the Greek tourism sector. 125 tourism businesses from Cyprus, Greece, Ireland, Italy, and Spain have been awarded up to €5,600 each from the I-STARS project. This follows an Open Call in July 2023, inviting tourism enterprises to transition to sustainable practices.
